Jazz/Pop Singer and
Songwriter Mary Kadderly brings to the stage a most distinctive
voice. Born in Portland, Oregon, Mary was surrounded by music
throughout her childhood. In her teens, she began performing,
getting her start singing in a jazz and blues band. "The first time
I sang into a microphone, the music bug bit me hard. From then on I
was hooked"' she says. At the age of 19, she started playing in
hometown clubs, while studying Music and Theater Arts at Portland
State University. Graduating in 1985, Kadderly was by then regularly
performing in nightclubs, in concerts, and at festivals.
"The
first time I sang into a microphone, the music bug bit me hard. From
then on I was hooked" In 1991, she started her record label,
marymargaret MUSIC. marymargaret MUSIC lists 3 titles: MARY
KADDERLY, DOWN RIGHT BIG TIME, and I GO ZOOM (top-selling CD in the
Northwest, 5 weeks in the top ten). I GO ZOOM (all original
music) was also nominated for best JAZZ and Blues album of 1999 and
won her the opportunity to perform at the
CLIFFORD BROWN JAZZ FESTIVAL 2000,
while on an east coast tour.
In 2003, marymargaret music became LIKELIFE RECORDS.
On the new label, Mary released LUCKY ME. She has also recorded
an album of Christmas music on Ripping Glass Records. She
wrote the title cut, CHRISTMAS MEMORIES.
Kadderly's music is played regularly on numerous radio stations all
over the country: NPR's KLCC, KLRR, KSMF, KMHD and KRCL as well as
KINK, KKJZ, K103, WJAA, and KNYC.
Mary, who also plays piano, continues to perform on the nightclub,
concert and festival circuit throughout the country. She is at work
on her first children's multimedia project, "Budly and the Big Wide
World." Book and companion CD available soon.
Mary is an
accomplished actress as well, most recently playing the part of a
jazz singer in the Robert DeNiro movie, Men Of Honor. She has
appeared in countless television/radio commercials and magazine ads.
Kadderly is on the
faculty of two Oregon Colleges, Portland State University and
Portland Community College. She also has a thriving private practice
teaching singing, piano, and music theory. And if that wasn't
enough, Mary dedicates a good deal of her free time -- and a portion
of the proceeds from every record sale -- to the
SMART program.
