From the beginning,
Mary Kadderly knew she'd want to use her talent to help her
community in some significant way. Today, she counts
herself fortunate to be able to give
a portion of all sales proceeds to the Oregon Children's Foundation.
The mission of the Oregon Children's Foundation is
to enhance the reading skills, attitudes, and life prospects of
children who need assistance, and to enable adult volunteers and
communities to experience the rewards of enriching young lives. The
SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) book and reading program is
currently the Foundation’s sole focus.
It's the vision of Oregon's Children's Foundation to help communities
bring SMART to every child who needs it. Long-term goals
include:
-
To empower families and communities to help their children
-
To increase the number of students graduating from high school
-
To provide Oregon with a more productive and literate work force
-
To make SMART available to children in all 36 Oregon counties by
2004
